Seminar Description:
California’s AB 1572 is reshaping commercial, industrial, institutional, and HOA landscapes by prohibiting the use of potable water on nonfunctional turf. This session provides a practical breakdown of what the legislation means for landscape professionals, including where the law applies, how nonfunctional turf is defined, key exemptions such as tree-support irrigation zones, and real-world compliance pathways. Attendees will gain clarity on how to guide clients through irrigation scheduling changes, controller upgrades, turf conversion planning, and climate-appropriate landscape alternatives.

Beyond compliance, this presentation focuses on how AB 1572 creates new business opportunities for contractors, maintenance companies, irrigation specialists, and landscape managers. As clients look for pathways to comply, landscape professionals are uniquely positioned to expand services in turf renovation, irrigation retrofits, California native and waterwise style planting design, and long-term water management consulting. Participants will leave with actionable strategies to help clients transition from ornamental turf to resilient, high-performing landscapes while positioning their business as a trusted leader in California’s changing regulatory environment.

Learning Objectives:
1. Identify where AB 1572 applies, define nonfunctional turf, and recognize key exemptions that affect landscape management decisions.
2. Develop practical compliance pathways for clients through irrigation adjustments, turf conversion strategies, and climate-appropriate planting alternatives.
3. Leverage AB 1572 as a business development opportunity by expanding services in irrigation retrofits, landscape renovation, and water-efficient design consulting.
