Seminar Description:
Cover identification and damage caused by ground squirrels and gophers.
Stress the need to develop an IPM strategy for managing ground squirrels and gophers.
Cover a variety of tools for managing ground squirrels and gophers including:
Habitat modification
Exclusion
Biocontrol
Trapping
Rodenticides
Burrow fumigation
For rodenticides, I will cover the active ingredients that can be used, and I will highlight procedures for applying the rodenticides. I will also discuss new restrictions on their use. I will discuss strengths and weakness of each approach.

For burrow fumigants, I will cover legal options, and highlight how those should be applied.

1. Learn about trapping and the use of rodenticide to control ground squirrels and gophers
2. Information about other IPM practices to manage burrowing rodents.
3. Learn how new regulations and legislation are impacting burrowing rodent management.

Roger Baldwin

Roger Baldwin is a Professor of Cooperative Extension at the University of California (UC), Davis, specializing in human-wildlife conflict.  Roger conducts much of his research and extension program on topics related to management of burrowing rodents.  He received his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in various wildlife-related programs from Kansas State University, The University of Memphis, and New Mexico State University, respectively.
