Seminar Description:
Designing fire-protected properties is easy. Modern Californians have been doing it since the 1700s. Maintaining that resistance, on the other hand, has proven difficult. Join this dynamic presentation on Firescaping and learn not just the foundational principles of fire protection, but also how to overcome some of the barriers to active stewardship and care. Doug Kent, author of Firescaping: Protecting your home with a fire-resistant landscape (2nd Ed.), will lead the presentation. He believes that strengthening our connections to the land improves resilience for people, plants, and animals. He will discuss best practices in regenerative Firescaping, focusing on reducing hazards and fostering health. Doug has been working to create fire-protected properties since 1994. His presentations are as educational as they are dynamic and inspiring.
Learning Objectives:
1. You will be able to articulate the principles of a fire-protected property.
2. You will be able to identify the four primary reasons for inaction in fire country.
3. You will be able to discuss some of the design elements that encourage active care and stewardship.
