The National Small Business Association released data that shows growing anxiety among small-business owners. The 2025 Small Business Economic Report shows that almost two-thirds of small businesses say that economic insecurity is their top challenge - the highest it has been in 13 years.

The survey results also show that owners are expecting growth or anticipate growth in the next year while 59% of respondents are still confident. Further, a majority, or 40% report being unable to access financing which shows a warning sign for future job growth.

These results are important to mention because according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, approximately 19% to 21% of Landscape Architects are self-employed. Further, nearly a quarter of landscape professionals are self-employed.
