Yoshikawa approaches his waterfalls from a metaphysical viewpoint. He has come to view waterfalls as a metaphor for ourselves. That metaphor would be the interplay of motion (physical universe) and no motion (the Spirit) which creates energy or the dance of life. Just as the visual aesthetics of the waterfalls are important, so too, are the aural factors which create a meditative state of mind.
