While we as landscape professionals can understand the importance of native plants, and this new American garden style that seems to be all the rage, your clients neighbors may not view it with the same importance that we do. Are there things we can do to change their minds, or influence them, into accepting what you want to do? It isnt always as easy as it seems, but well look at some ways, some more simple, some practical, and some just fun, to hopefully sway the thinking of the disbeliever who might view this as just weeds. Carl has an energetic presentation style that will make this informative and fun.
Learning Objectives:
1. See the native/naturalist garden style from a laypersons view.
2. Develop strategies to overcome the often negative feelings that can come from others, while viewing this new style of landscape.

Carl Bower Jr
Carl is an assistant professor of horticulture at Pennsylvania College of Technology, teaching there for 18 years in their Landscape/Plant Production program. A graduate of the program, and now back there teaching after many years in the industry, Carl has many years designing landscapes in central PA, and managing insects and diseases. He is passionate about plants, sustainable design, and pest management. His success is measured by his students and their success in the industry. He received the Excellence in Teaching award at the college and regularly speaks to garden clubs and other garden organizations sharing his passion.
