"How to Go Native Without Pissing Off Your Neighbors" Webinar Review

Native Planting Design Best Practices and Clients
by Staff

Learn how to integrate native plants into your landscape while gaining valuable landscape business skills.

Assistant Horticulture Professor at Pennsylvania College of Technology, Carl Bower Jr, presented a live and recorded webinar to professionals from across the country to learn about native planting best practices.

Bower discussed the misconceptions surrounding native plants and how client's neighbors and HOAs alike need to be educated about the "cue to care" and how this style of planting can attract welcome visitors like pollinators.

He went on to give examples of traditional and native plantings and how there can be a happy medium that can be both aesthetically pleasing and manageable with the proper knowledge. Bower also gave practical design principles that can be implemented into each and every design professional's arsenal.

Attendees were engaged with humor while still having an educational session. Register for the OnDemand session for CEU credit, hear an engaging Q&A session, and learn.

Learning Objectives:
1. See the native/naturalist garden style from a laypersons view.
2. Develop strategies to overcome the often negative feelings that can come from others, while viewing this new style of landscape.
3. Realize the importance of this garden style in today's culture.

Webinar Description:
While we as landscape professionals can understand the importance of native plants, and this new American garden style that seems to be all the rage, your clients neighbors may not view it with the same importance that we do. Are there things we can do to change their minds, or influence them, into accepting what you want to do? It isn't always as easy as it seems, but well look at some ways, some more simple, some practical, and some just fun, to hopefully sway the thinking of the disbeliever who might view this as just weeds. Carl has an energetic presentation style that will make this informative and fun.
