Today's irrigation systems are getting much more sophisticated to be able to give customers the features that we need to better manage our landscapes. This course is going to explore the latest cutting edge technology for solving problems in this high tech world of commercial irrigation. As irrigation systems continue to evolve from simple on/off devices to the more sophisticated water resource management products that are being offered today, we need to explore what is available and how to best utilize them to achieve our goals of better water and plant management. Areas we will delve into include smart irrigation technology, flow sensing, solar, adding master valves and extra stations, two-wire irrigation and trouble-shooting, etc.

Mark Pedicone has been in the landscape irrigation industry here in Southern California for over 30 years. After attending Fullerton College, Mark graduated from Cal Poly Pomona with a B.S. degree in Ornamental Horticulture. He had a short stint managing a retail nursery. Mark entered the landscape irrigation field when he was hired by the Irrometer Company to be their landscape irrigation specialist. In the three years that Mark worked for Irrometer, he had a chance to experience many aspects of the landscape irrigation trade in Southern California. He got to work with the leaders in landscape architecture, irrigation design, distribution and with many irrigation manufactures. During this time Mark was one of the original founding members of the Southern California Xeriscape Committee and served on that group for many years.

Shortly there-after Mark was hired away from Irrometer to become the Southern California District Sales Manager for Rain Bird where he managed the largest irrigation market in the country for them. During his time as D.M. for Rain Bird he was awarded their District Manager of the Year award. Mark also served during this time as the President of the Southern California Turfgrass Council, an organization of landscape professionals involved in the turfgrass industry here in Southern California.

We will discuss the pros and cons of some of the latest "Smart" control systems on the market. We will delve into why some people are successful and others are not when using these systems. We will also look at communication options for these systems, cloud management, flow sensing and rebates.

2015 – Smart Water Controller Programming

This seminar will discuss "Smart Controllers" and how they are utilized into today's landscape. Attendees will delve into the world of Smart Irrigation Timers by looking at how these devices can save both time and water if utilized correctly, and at what needs to be done to take advantage of this technology to get the most bangs for the buck. Attendees will look at the technical aspect of these devices and how they currently make themselves "Smart" and where to expect these products to go in the future as technology changes. Discuss the homework that is necessary to do prior to installing and managing these controllers, and the ongoing aspects to make these products continue to give excellent service for years to come.
