We will identify which are beneficial to trees and which do not harm trees. Then we will identify beetles that attack trees and the level of damage they do, as well as review IPM programs to manage these pests. Lastly we will review invasive beetles and how best to manage them. Previous TLE Presentations2018 – We Are Being Invaded: By Invasive Tree Pests & DiseasesThis will be a review of current invasive tree pests and diseases in Southern California while also introducing new invasive pests and diseases making their way into our area. We will review pest life cycles as well as how to prevent and treat for these pests. 2017 - Update on Trunk Injection Technology With Chemical Options for Treating Local Tree Pests & DiseasesThe course will begin with a review of how trunk injection works and then go into new equipment being used. We will also discuss what chemicals are used for trunk injection and what type of pest or disease they treat. Lastly, we will review local pests and diseases and what treatment options are available. 2014 - Treating Invasive Pests & Diseases in Trees with Trunk InjectionsThis course will discuss the scope of current invasive insect species and how they are treated using trunk injection as an effective and environmentally way to treat trees. Also discussed are the ways to set up a research trial on insects which includes the new Polyphagous Shot Hole Borer (PSHB), which is poised to inflict major damage to our urban forest here in southern California. An example trial established this year at some local botanical gardens in southern California will be covered on controlling PSHB.
