Invasive Pest Mitigation
Invasive pests are introduced every year however some are intercepted at border stations or trade ports, but some are not. Invasive species can have severe economic and environmental consequences. Learn how to identify several of the current invasive pest species of concern and what you can do to minimize their spread and impact in our landscapes.
Learning Objectives:
1. Understand how invasive species arrive and their potential impact.
2. Learn about current invasive pest species, host plants, and how to identify them.
3. Learn what landscapers, residents, garden centers, arborists, and others can do to minimize the spread of invasive pests.
Mackenzie Patton
MacKenzie is the Community Education Specialist for the Statewide Urban IPM, with a focus on invasive species. She is from Dallas Fort Worth Area in Texas but now resides with her husband, two cats, and dog in North Sacramento. She received her B.S. in biology at the University of Texas while working with a molecular entomologist, where she fell in love with the world of entomology and plant pathology. After receiving her M.S. in plant pathology at UC Davis she worked as a diagnostic plant pathologist for a private company, but realized she had a passion for outreach.
