Dawn will start the webinar with a brief introduction to what Integrated Pest Management entails as defined by the Department of Pesticides Regulations.

She will review the different technologies used to treat trees including Canopy Spray, Bark Spray, Soil Injection, Soil Drench, Trunk Injection and Removal, and will then discuss the pros and cons of each technology.

Treatment plans for the common trees pests and disease in the area will be reviewed and worked through, including:
• Scale, Aphids, Mites, Whitefly, Thrips, Anthracnose, Fire blight, Sawfly, Caterpillars, Powdery Mildew, Phytophthora

Dawn will review and work through treatment plans for invasive pests and disease in or potentially coming to the area, including:
• Pine Bark Beetles, South American Palm Weevil and Invasive Shot Hole Borer.

There will be an introduction to plant growth regulators and how they work and expected results for growth reduction, drought resistance, root development and disease resistance.

Label review of application methods, dosing and PPE. After which there will be a review of best treatment practices, reviewing how to read chemical labels, knowing PPE and proper maintenance and cleaning of equipment.

She will review what makes a tree healthy and less susceptible to pests & diseases, water requirements, nutrient needs, sun/light and air quality.

Lastly, a review of water management tools designed for trees.

Previous TLE Presentations

2018 – We Are Being Invaded: By Invasive Tree Pests & Diseases

This will be a review of current invasive tree pests and diseases in Southern California while also introducing new invasive pests and diseases making their way into our area. We will review pest life cycles as well as how to prevent and treat for these pests.

2017 - Update on Trunk Injection Technology With Chemical Options for Treating Local Tree Pests & Diseases

The course will begin with a review of how trunk injection works and then go into new equipment being used. We will also discuss what chemicals are used for trunk injection and what type of pest or disease they treat. Lastly, we will review local pests and diseases and what treatment options are available.

2014 - Treating Invasive Pests & Diseases in Trees with Trunk Injections

This course will discuss the scope of current invasive insect species and how they are treated using trunk injection as an effective and environmentally way to treat trees. Also discussed are the ways to set up a research trial on insects which includes the new Polyphagous Shot Hole Borer (PSHB), which is poised to inflict major damage to our urban forest here in southern California. An example trial established this year at some local botanical gardens in southern California will be covered on controlling PSHB.
